First edition summer 2020

2020 - First edition

You all know Mozart, Beethoven and Bach... but can you name any female composers?!

From July 24 to September 20, 2020, the Château de Rosa Bonheur is pleased to present the first edition of the Rosa Bonheur Festival, Un temps pour Elles, dedicated to female composers.

In two words...

Rosa Bonheur's passion for music is no longer a secret, La grande Carvalho, Massenet and Bizet were close friends of hers, the imposing presence of her Erard in the studio also attests to this. We are very happy to have compositions by women heard, in the park of the artist's castle, the very place where Rosa watched the sun for whole hours through the foliage of centuries-old trees.

Katherine Brault, owner of Château de Rosa Bonheur

This festival wants, by its programming, to propose a lighting resolutely turned towards the female musical creation. This audacious program is carried by big names in vocal and instrumental music who have responded, in order to make the public discover new masterpieces, unjustly erased from the history of music.

In 1865, Rosa Bonheur was the first female artist to receive the Legion of Honor from the hands of Empress Eugénie, who thus wanted to demonstrate that "genius has no sex", a maxim which wonderfully illustrates the message that we want to wear with the Rosa Bonheur Festival.

Lou Brault & Héloïse Luzzati, artistic directors
